Hand in Hand Chinese Halting Summer Activities for 2020

Dear Hand in Hand Families,

A huge part of Hand in Hand Chinese’s mission statement is to promote the appreciation of Chinese culture by fostering and establishing friendships between Chinese adoptees, Chinese-American teenagers, and any others interested in our story. We believe that an in-person interactive experience is integral to fulfilling this mission statement. Since we are unable to organize in-person camp due to the dangers of the current coronavirus pandemic, it is with a heavy heart that we say we have made the executive decision to halt all Hand in Hand Chinese activities for this summer until further notice.

We have come to the conclusion that a digital camp simply would not be able to encompass one of the most important parts of our program, the connections made from camper to camper and camper to counselor. It would be a disservice to our families to provide a lower quality camp online that does not truly serve our mission. Despite the unfamiliarity of this situation, the tragedies and hardships of this pandemic have brought us closer together as a Chinese community as we all continue to do our duties in protecting those around us and those working hard on the medical frontlines. We look forward to future endeavors with our Hand in Hand family when it is safe to do so.

We thank you deeply for your dedication and interest in our organization and we hope your families all the best in terms of health and happiness. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at handinhand@handinhandchinese.org. Please be safe and stay well!

Best,

Cindy Qiu and Maya Spaulding
